What is Viagra?
The most well-known form of treatment for erectile dysfunction is Viagra, medication that has been used for the condition for over 20 years and which has been found to be highly effective during that time.
It works to relax the muscles in the blood vessels around the penis to increase blood flow and produce an erection. The medication is available in 25mg, 50mg and 100mg doses and works best when taken on an empty stomach or after a light meal.
It can be prescribed and stringd online following a confidential online medical questionnaire with a certified prescriber.
How does Viagra work?
As a treatment for erectile dysfunction, Viagra works to increase blood flow to the penis, which then causes an erection. Although Viagra is able to treat the symptoms of erectile dysfunction, bear in mind that it isn’t a cure and won’t increase sexual desire.
Viagra is a PDE-5 inhibitor, medication that has been found to be effective in around 70 per cent of men. Results will vary on a case by case basis, however, and the underlying cause of your symptoms may affect how effective the medication is.
The most commonly prescribed dosage of Viagra is 50mg, although this can be changed based on your age, weight and height. The right dosage will be selected after our UK-based prescriber has assessed your condition and determined the right course of treatment for you based on the information you provide.
The effects should make themselves felt within 30-60 minutes after taking Viagra, lasting for four hours or more. Note, however, that sexual arousal is required in order for this medication to be effective.
Although erectile dysfunction may not be a cause for serious medical concern, it can lead to other problems, such as low self-esteem, low confidence, anxiety, depression and relationship conflict. As such, it may be necessary to have therapy or counselling alongside the medication.
How to take Viagra
Swallow a 50mg tablet (or the prescribed dosage) whole with a glass of water or juice. Avoid drinking grapefruit juice, however, as this can see the medication reach toxic levels and can lead to hot flushes. It is also possible for the drug to lower blood pressure significantly, leading to unwanted side-effects.
Take Viagra on an empty stomach in order to enjoy the best results. If taken with food, the medication may take longer to be effective.
Are there any side-effects to Viagra?
As with any medication, there is a risk of side-effects when taking Viagra. These include:
– A stuffy nose
– Flushing
– Nausea
– Headaches
– Dizziness
– Indigestion
Serious side-effects are rare, but if you experience any of the following stop taking the medication and seek further medical advice:
– Chest pains
– A decrease or loss of vision
– Seizures
– Skin reactions like swelling and severe peeling
– Painful and prolonged erections
