What is Regaine Foam?
Male pattern baldness and hair loss is a very common condition, characterised by hair loss at temples and over the top of the head. It can be caused by genetic factors and changes in hormones, age, psychological causes like stress, conditions like alopecia and certain medications, such as drugs for high blood pressure or cancer.
There are ways in which hair loss and male pattern baldness can be treated, however, such as Regaine Foam. This is available here at MENS once you’ve completed a confidential medical questionnaire with our UK-based certified prescriber.
Regaine is an effective foam that’s easy to apply and penetrates deep into the scalp, with the skin absorbing the foam quickly so it can start to strengthen the hair follicles, preventing hair loss and encouraging new hair growth.
Regaine Foam is one of the most popular treatments for hair loss in men aged between 18 and 65, with positive results typically visible within five months or thereabouts.
The formula works to strengthen the hair follicles from within, which can help improve blood flow and make the follicles stronger to help reduce the rate of hair loss.
If you use Regaine regularly and accurately, you should start to see new hair growth within 14 to 18 weeks. However, it’s important to remember that hair growth is a slow process and some people may find that it takes some time to encourage hair growth on the scalp.
How does Regaine Foam work?
Regaine contains minoxidil, which is the only over-the-counter active ingredient that has been clinically proven to help stop and potentially reverse hereditary hair loss. Research shows that approximately 60 per cent of people experience an increase in scalp coverage.
It works by stimulating the hair follicles to move from resting phase to growth phase, as well as increasing the length of the growth phase. In healthy hair follicles, the resting phase lasts six weeks, which is why it’s important to use the product regularly for at least six weeks in order to see results.
The minoxidil active ingredient helps to dilate the blood vessels, which allows more blood, oxygen and nutrients to reach the hair follicles. This helps encourage the hair to grow, as well as increasing the diameter of the hair shaft, which aids thicker hair growth.
How to use Regaine Foam
Before you apply the product, make sure that your hair and scalp are completely dry. Apply the foam evenly, either in just the affected hair loss areas or all over the scalp. Using your fingertips during application can help improve absorption of the foam.
Regaine should be used at least twice a day for the best results.
Do not use Regaine when:
– You have a scalp-based skin infection
– You have itching or swelling of the scalp
– You’re already using other medication on your scalp
– You are sensitive or allergic to ethanol or minoxidil
Are there any side-effects to using Regaine Foam?
As with any medication, there is a risk of side-effects when using Regaine. These include:
– Redness
– Itching
– Skin allergies
– Changes to the colour/texture of hair
– Headaches
