What is Betacap Scalp Solution?

Betacap that contains the active ingredient betamethasone valerate. This is a steroid medication which is used in the treatment of eczema and other inflammatory skin conditions like psoriasis. Cream and ointment forms are available and it is a prescription-only medicine.

Betacap is stronger than some other eczema treatments. It is usually prescribed if weaker creams have not worked. It is a topical steroid known as a corticosteroid. The branded version is Betnovate Scalp Application

How does Betacap work?

Betamethasone (0.1%), a topical corticosteroid, is the active ingredient in Betacap Scalp Application. Betacap is applied directly to the scalp to provide relief. Allergic reaction or over-sensitivity of the skin is the usual cause of skin inflammation. Betnovate works by acting inside the skin cells to reduce the release of chemicals that cause inflammation. This results in the reduction of the swelling, itching, and redness, which help prevent scratching that can further irritate the skin.

Betacap Scalp Application is suitable for direct use on scalp to treat scalp conditions such as psoriasis or seborrhoeic dermatitis.

When the Betacap scalp solution is applied to the affected area, it is absorbed into the skin, where it begins to work inside the cells — inhibiting the release of the chemicals that cause inflammation. This reduces swelling, itching and redness — the common symptoms of eczema, psoriasis and other skin conditions.

How should Betacap Scalp be applied?

Betacap scalp solution is easy to use. For more in-depth instructions on how to apply Betacap, you can read the Patient Information Leaflet enclosed with the medicine.

Here is a quick overview of how to use Betacap:

  • Ensure your hair and scalp are dry before applying Betacap
  • Wash and dry hands
  • Betacap scalp solution should be applied sparingly to the affected areas of the scalp, using the nozzle of the bottle
  • The solution should then be massaged into the scalp using clean, dry fingers
  • Betacap should then be left to dry
  • Take extra care to avoid the solution running onto your face and into your eyes (if this occurs, rinse thoroughly using cool water)
  • Leave Betacap on the scalp and do not wash off (if you need to wash your hair, this should be done prior to application)
  • Wash your hands afterwards

Apply Betacap twice daily. As soon as the condition starts to improve, you should reduce the frequency of application, or as directed by your doctor.

Do not store this medicine in temperatures in excess of 25 degrees celsius. Protect from direct sunlight and store in the original container. For external use only.

If you do not see a noticeable improvement in your symptoms after two weeks, consult your doctor or pharmacist. They may suggest a repeat course of this treatment.
